サイラスとキリスト教
『サイラス・マーナー』は、主人公サイラスの回心を描いた作品である。長い不信の時期を経て、サイラスはラヴィローで再び”trust in God and man”(14)を取り戻す。それを促した最大の要因は、もちろんエピーとの愛情関係にあるが、回心を準備した背景には、ラヴィローの宗教的風土が不可欠な要素として存在している。
