The unknown metal block is provided from the teacher. Determine the identity of an unknown metal (metal block), using 2 physical properties. Each kind of metal has different specific heat. So, if this metal block’s specific heat is calculated, by looking the chart of specific heat, it can be figure out. Before starts the experiment, calorimeter need the calibration because, it also absorb some heat. Specific heat is the one physical property and other, we will look at the color of the metal.

In this experiment, we already knew some errors would occur. In this experiment, we handle the heat. However, it’s impossible to keep all the heat we want for this experiment. Every second, some heat are released into the air and there no such way we can keep those heat in. And also, calorimeter is not a perfect tool because, the lid is made by plastic. It will absorb the energy and it can release some energy from it. If we have closed container, which will not release heat into the air, and if we had more efficiently calorimeter, we might have more accurate result.
Plus, we didn’t consider the temperature probe’s heat absorption. I think that’s lower the temperature inside the calorimeter. So next time if we do this experiment again, we needs to consider the heat loss by temperature probes.
And the point where we can lose much heat was when we pour the hot water into the calorimeter. If we pout some hot water, there must have some energy heat because, the surface area, which touches air, will increase. So we may need to put mess cylinder straight into the calorimeter. If we do like that, energy loss can be decrease. However, to do this, we need globe because, mess cylinder with hot water becomes very high temperature and it’s dangerous for empty-handed.
