In 1932 the Nazis became the strongest party in the Reichstag. Then in 1933, Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany. The Nazis used many tactics to gain power and supports. They used both force and persuasion (or deals) but in my opinion, I think the Nazis used more persuasion (or deals) then force. We can say some events were absolutely using force but more than that, I think there more other reasons why the Nazis gained so much power. On the other hand, I think the Nazis used force to keep control the Nazis.
First, there were many problems that the Nazis could blame the Weimar Republic. For examples, the Great Depression, the Treaty of Versailles and the communists. The Great Depression caused Germans to move to the party like the Nazis. And the Nazis could blame Weimar Republic for the Treaty of Versailles about reparations and others.
Next, I think this is the one main reason of the Nazis’ success and that is charismatic characteristics of Adolf Hitler. Especially his speaking skill was so great. Up to this time, usually political speech was intelligent person speak with difficult vocabularies but Hitler added entertainment into his speech. As a result, Hitler won the supports of the people.
Third, political propaganda helped the Nazis to gain power and supports. The Nazi propaganda was directed by Joseph Goebbels. He was a master of propaganda. He controlled all types of media in Germany. For example, newspaper, poster, book, magazine, radio and etc.
